Have you ever seen a cookie look so pretty it would be hard to eat? Alex Copeland has brought O' so many smiles with his cookie business Plenty O' Cookies. Alex has brought his drag persona into the mix and hosts fun baking parties with Plenty O' Smiles. Alex was such a fun guest on the podcast and is so sweet we had to follow up with him with some listener questions.
Where did your drag name come from?
My drag name just came from my friends and I at the bar thinking of a drag name. We thought of Plenty and we said let’s make her Irish. I forget who said it but Smiles came out and Plenty O’Smiles was born. People tried to get me to change my name and then they realized it worked for my personality.
What is your favorite brand of makeup?
I don’t really have a favorite brand of makeup. I just buy things I think look pretty and go with it.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten years I see myself baking full-time traveling in drag to teach cookie decorating parties.
Do you want to expand nationwide and have brick and mortar stores?
I don’t think I want a brick and mortar shop. I want to buy a home and turn a space into my cookie studio. The only thing I want to go national is cookie decorating parties with a drag queen.
What else do you bake?
I bake everything but for now I only sell my decorated sugar cookies. But hopefully other things coming soon :)
What’s your least favorite sweet treat?
I don’t think I have a least favorite sweet treat. I love sweets!
Do you have any words of wisdom for someone who wants to follow their passion and try to have a start up?
Words of wisdom. That’s tough. I’d say find something you enjoy or you’re passionate about and go for it. It’s a lot of hard work but it’s worth it.
What is something you wish you knew about business before you started?
I wish I knew so much. But really it’s not something I wish I knew but I wish I had more time in the day to accomplish all the things I want to do.
My favorite song. That’s hard! I’ll say I have some favorite artists/groups. I love the Spice Girls, ABBA, Bee Gees, Cher, Reba, and basically anything that’s fun and happy.
